The first suggestion of a
Heatherside Church Golf Society came about in 2005 after a
challenge over a cup of coffee before church:
‘You play golf don’t you?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘So why don’t you start a
golf society?’ ‘Well for a start I wouldn’t know how!’
But the idea stuck, grew and, after conversations with
people who did know what a golf society involved and how to
run it, we played our first golf day at Downshire on 30th
June 2006 with 12 players.
Although some thought it wouldn’t last, we now have a loyal
band of 30+ with between 24 and 28, playing three times per
year at different courses. While we do heartily compete
with each other for various trophies and prizes, our
priority
is to play golf, have fun and enjoy catching up together
over breakfast before tee-off and lunch afterwards.
